Last week our Year 6 pupils were fortunate to participate in a Victorian Workshop, delivered at school by the wonderful Drama Hut.
The Drama Hut specialises in bringing history to life, a fantastic way for our Y6 pupils to explore the Victorian era. The Drama Hut leader played the part of Mrs Barnardo and the children learnt about the activist Dr Thomas Barnardo and the work he did in establishing the first children’s home in Victorian times.
They gained an insight into the harsh life endured by the poor including an improvisation ‘Mudlarking’ in The Thames. They discovered how Victorian England was transformed through innovation and The Industrial Revolution and took part in ‘The Great Exhibition of 1851’ with special guest Queen Victoria herself!
The pupils will now build on this wonderful learning experience in future lessons.
