Join ‘Astrid The Elegant’ in a famous Viking Longboat, and journey from Scandinavia to Northumbria, Anglo Saxon England, to start a new life!

This workshop can have an emphasis on either The Vikings or The Anglo Saxons, depending on your curriculum needs.

During this workshop, the children will:

  • Create dramatic pictures in order to explore Viking and Anglo Saxon life

  • Through improvisation set sail in a Viking longboat and discover why the Vikings came to our shores

  • Play ‘Guess the God’ to look at the role of religion in both Anglo Saxon and The Viking life

  • Recreate the story of ‘Thor’s Hammer’ or ‘Beowulf’ to learn how stories and riddles were used to educate children

What people are saying about this workshop:

“They enjoyed all of the different aspects: from creating freeze frames; ‘rowing’ to England on a longship; to learning about the Norse Gods. There was so much knowledge packed into the hour! Thank you so much! The children and I had a great time, as we always do in Drama Hut sessions.”

Patricia - Teacher, Orleans Primary School

“The actor was in role from the moment the session began and the children loved her name (and the explanation of her name) and the way she acted as though she didn’t know what the internet was or why she was seeing all these faces on this ‘strange box’! The varied activities: coming up with their own nicknames, miming rowing across the sea, turning their bodies into objects (including a Viking helmet and shield) and using their thumbs to agree or disagree with the statements in the trivia quiz were all highlights of the visit.”

Aimee - Teacher, Sara Village School
